Things I’m tired of hearing

Lately there have been things going around teh intarwebs that I’m tired of reading about. For your reading pleasure, I present you with the list.

  1. The iPhone
No kidding. The fanboys have latched on to this one something fierce. While I’m sure it’s going to be a nifty device, they are acting like it’s going to be the greatest thing since free internet porn. Going out on a limb here, but it’s probably going to get worse after the
    damn thing comes out.
  2. The DRM in the non-drm tracks.
In case you haven’t heard, the new iTunes Plus tracks are DRM free. You can even convert them to mp3 if you want. But, each track is still tagged with your account information, just like the DRM’d tracks are. You know what, I don’t care. I don’t share my music on p2p sites so I have nothing to worry about. While I’m at it, I really hate DRM as much or more than the next guy, but I’m getting tired of hearing about it as well. WE all know it doesn’t work, but the record companies can’t seem to figure that out. It’s annoying.
  3. People that don’t like the new MINI
This one is getting seriously out of control. The haters are calling those that like or buy the new car names on the boards and even at MF. It really makes no sense.

I’m sure there is more, but we’ll start with this.

The thing I very much hate about those items above? The fact that people can only seem to complain. Very seldom do you see anyone doing anything about it. Granted, in most cases, there isn’t anything that can be done, so maybe complaining is the only way to go. But honestly, can it all stop? Now would be a great time.

  1. Wait, there’s FREE internet porn? When did that happen and where was I?

Um — need I remind you that opinions are like noses, we all have them and some of them stink. 😉

And I’m just waiting for you bust out with…’all we are SAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYIIIIINNNNNGGGGGG, is give peace a chance….’ next.

  2. hey, no dissing the iPhone just because you can’t buy it and put Windows XP on it 🙂

talking of overpriced XP machines, I see there are new macbook pros out today.

  3. You know, I really would like the iPhone..but I too am tired of hearing about it like it’s the second coming or something. This compares in hype to the newton…hopefully they’ve learned.

And I agree with you about the new MINI haters on motoringfile. Some people simply fear change and can’t get over it…they hate to think that something they have is inferior.

However, on the other end of the spectrum- some people tend to hang on Gabe’s every word and will buy something purely if he says it’s good product (think Leather Dash, JCW steering wheel). Don’t get me wrong- I usually agree with Gabe’s reviews and I believe his auto-journalistic (that a word?) is fair and balanced. He does seem to have a little of the Steve Jobs “reality distortion field” effect, though ;-).

  4. Peace? Well, ok. Maybe a little, but don’t expect much outta me 😉

I won’t buy an iPhone because even if AT&T were to offer to pay me to be a customer, I still wouldn’t. I’ll wait until the fancy iPod features are available on an iPod, no phone attached.

No, not calling MINI lovers fan boys. No real need since it’s already assumed 😉 . What they are doing is calling people that buy or like the new cars motards, which I think is less than appropriate.

Remember, you said it, not me. 😉 🙂

  5. I think “motard” needs to be added to the urban dictionary pronto.

Let me back-track a little (after re-reading my post it sounds a little harsh).

Gabe/Motoringfile does have major “pull” in the MINI community and draws thousands of visitors every day to his site. Over time people have come to trust him (as do I)- I wasn’t trying to imply anything else. I was merely trying to point out that for some issues (the new MINI especially) there is a serious dichotomy between some of the commentors on MF (those for and some against the new car). Some people tend to be joiners and will buy anything just because that’s what everyone else is doing. Others tend to feel that everything that is new is wrong, different, and a shame to the brand. Personally, I love the new car and I’m looking forward to the day (much later in the future) to when I could add a new one to my garage.

At any rate, I’ll amend my “RDF” comment- sorry if it came off harsh (Gabe)- not my intent.

  6. uh-oh, gabe’s people get to you cj?? I thought you were right on the money. But that isn’t to say we don’t need people like that.
