Stepping out of Character

Not a big fan of the Halloween holiday. I don’t like dressing up, don’t like being scared and I really don’t like poisoned apples. Call me crazy. A good chance that I don’t like this particular holiday due to my deep, dark dislike of clowns. We **have** discussed this before, so there is no need to revisit it.

Yet twice during the month of October I did something completely out of character for me. First up, I saw _Paranormal Activity_. The movie that was shot for the cost of a new Kia and earned back millions. If you saw it, you know it was creepy and remarkably well done. If you haven’t seen it, the butler did it. Oddly enough, it was an enjoyable experience.

The second thing was going to a haunted house. I had tickets, I had someone to go with and I really wanted the chance to see teh lad get his scare on. He gets community service hours working there, and this is his second year. That means he got to be on the **Extreme Team**, wandering around the stadium scaring people as they walked the concourses, waited in line for the mazes or just chillin’ in the bleachers waiting for the effects of flashing lights to go away.

Turns out, he’s a pretty scary kid. I was amazed not only by his acting ability, but by the same ability by everyone working there. I went on the last night, after Halloween and it wasn’t busy. Yet here are these kids, totally getting into character and doing a great job!

It was also fun and I had a pretty good time. Completely out of character for me too. Maybe I’m turning over a new leaf in that I like scary stuff. Well, no, probably not. Maybe more like I’m beginning to not be such a sissy-boy about it.
