Another reason to hate IE

In this day of message boards and web based email, it seems more and more sites require cookies. Hell, when you comment here, here or here, a cookie gets set to remember your login information.

Sometimes though, especially with message boards, there is a problem with that board’s cookie. I’m running a few of these now and I’ve seen it over and over again. The best fix is to just delete the cookie for that board and re-login. Not a problem for you FireFox users, with complete and easy access to each individual cookie for easy deletion. This is a little bit more of a problem for you Internet Explorer Users on Windows XP/2K.

You IE users on WinXP/2K…do you know where your cookies are kept? It really isn’t that difficult, but unless you’ve explored the \Documents and Settings\ folder, you really won’t have any idea. Even if you knew where they were, there is a good chance that you aren’t going to know which is for which site. You might figure it out, but there is a chance you’ll get confused, get mad and give up.

So then, you go into the Control Panel, Internet options applet, where you can remove all of your cookies. Yes, the one for Yahoo! Yes, the one for your game site. And your pron site. And every other message board you belong too and every web log you have subscribed too. Seems like a bit much to me, to only delete one cookie.

So, go get FireFox. It’s ok, you can thank me later.
