It is actually much too late on the day before Sunday. No, scratch that. It’s much too early Sunday. I’m tired, a little loopy and having a hard time keeping my eyes open, but for some reason I am compelled to put words to screen.

This could go anywhere

Honestly. I’m sitting at my desk letting my fingers just dance across the glorious Apple keyboard that sits directly in front of my 20″ iMac. There are cables connecting the two that constantly get in the way, but I’m just too damned cheap to pony up the $80 for the bluetooth keyboard.

I’ve mentioned this keyboard many times in the past. I really enjoy using it. I mean, really enjoy it. I actually like this one better than the one that I have at the office, which is about 2 weeks old. Why? This one is all broken in. The buttons finally work as I expect them too. The keys are smooth and silky and have a pleasant feel about them as my fingers press. The action is fluid, quiet and yet, at the same time, slightly mechanical in a very satisfying way.

Yes, I do love my keyboard.

Don’t get me wrong. That old IBM keyboard that came with my 286 back in the early 90’s was a wondrous piece of gear. It was loud, solid and keying on that board was almost the same as using a typewriter back in high school. Connected with a tightly coiled cable that was forever getting in the way of something, it was still an awesome keyboard. You could get a serious rhythm going with that board and once in the groove, man, the places it could take you.

Between the boards, there have been others. I even tried one of the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboards for a spell. While I didn’t dislike it, I’m a lazy typist that doesn’t know where the numbers are without looking, and taking a hand off of that thing to work the 10 pad was inconvenient and really slowed things down.

There was also a slew of Logitech boards with the myriads of PCs that I have used over the years. Not too bad either. Satisfying sounds and feel, wireless, comfortable and good to type on. Hell, most of the posts on this site and this one before ‘07 were made with a Logitech board. And there was some good stuff.

But, and this is just my own humble opinion, not as good as the stuff that came after.

Yes, I do love my keyboard. Is that strange? Maybe. If you don’t love yours, then perhaps you should take some time out of your day today and get to shopping. If your computer is a tool, then the keyboard is the handle and you really should find something that works for you, fits well in your hand and is pleasing to use. Otherwise, you might as well use a pencil. I shudder at that thought.

You should be able to use a keyboard like you use your car. When you reach for something, it’s just there. You didn’t have to look because your hands knew what it would find when it landed. A good keyboard is exactly like that.

And I love mine.

I swear I’m crazy from this damned fever I’ve had most of the week. It’s like I’m going through menopause or something, which I’m really not because, you know, I have a penis.

So, a fever plus 90 degree temps in SoCal plus a cough so bad I think I might have cracked a rib or two. Add in a few idiot drivers and suddenly I’m Mr. Crankypants. Sheesh.

This is the other reason I don’t get sick very often. I don’t handle it well. Nope. No sir. Not even a little bit. Not.

Worry if you see me walking around with a baseball bat. If you see said bat, running might be a good choice of actions. At me or away, your pick. I’m really not that accurate with a bat.

When making a list post for your website, blog or newsletter, please try to remember some of the following.

Make sure websites you reference are actually there. I don’t care if it’s a virus honey pot, since that’s almost always a better read than a GoDaddy domain parking page.

Don’t end the list telling me how much experience you have. It’s obvious you know how to make a list. Nice work.

If you are some kind of PR Wizard, create TW- words or -ista words, please refrain from making lists.

Make sure that your list post is completely covered in ads and as many social media buttons you can find. Social Media buttons are the Web 2.0 version of animated .gifs and when you have more than 50 of them on your site, your Google Page Rank increases by a factor of 10E8*34.

Make sure to post a link to your freshly minted list to Twitter every 15 minutes for 2 hours. Then, with your other 15 Twitter accounts, retweet the list at least 10 times per account.

If you could follow all of the rules I would love you forever. Thank you.

Quite a few years ago I started this little blog. One blog, one blog only please. Ran it over at Blogger. It was a mix of silly things I found, MINI Stuff and the odd, or not so odd, rant. And, if I’m honest, it wasn’t that great.

I decided to split my words up. bought some domain names. Started playing with different blogging platforms. One of those domains was windthefrog.net. It was fun, quirky, and inspired to me to write more, and not just the odd, or not so odd, rant. And, if I can be so bold, it was good.

Fast forward 6 years.

I no longer use windthefrog.net for daily blogging chores, instead keeping it over at Tumblr, performing the work of a link blog plus a few other things. I was ready to let it go.

In comes GoDaddy. There were reminders. And more reminders. But, alas, I forgot to uncheck the ‘auto-renew’ box there.

And so, at least for the next 2 years, w(t)f lives! And, for now, as nothing more than a lowly link blog. If you want to see what I’m diggin’ on the intertubes, that’s the place to check.

I spend a fair amount of time, much like many of you, pretty close to the center of the technology bubble. I am, much like many of you, what is considered to be an early adopter. Not always running the latest and/or greatest gear, but I know it’s out there, know it’s specifications and know when you will be able to obtain it at BestBuy.

Much like many of you.

But friends, I am here to tell you today that we are living a lie! A lie I tell you!

You see friends, we are but a very small minority on this big blue ball. We care about technology. We celebrate it. We embrace it! But we are alone friends. Very. Very alone.

As knowledge workers, we are aware of this to an extent. But, it is not until one ventures out into the real world that one discovers just how truly alone one is.

For example.

G5 iMac. No iSight camera. Won’t run Leopard (and many apps). Still with iPhoto v4. Awful I know. Numerous Dell Dimensions circa ‘99 – ‘02. And, sadly, a Compaq (!) that was “Built for Windows ME”.

Cellphones too. The battered Palm Treos. The Motorola phones that won’t synch to a computer. And, horribly, the new iPhone owners that aren’t running Vista or Leopard.

Tragic, I know.

They are out there friends. In numbers greater than any of us could possibly imagine.

Just do us all a favor, please. Upgrade Internet Explorer already!

As always, thank you for your time.

I’ve got more than a few things to get done today. I spent the better part of the week sitting on my hands for the most part and getting nothing done except for a few lackluster workouts.

Well, maybe that is not entirely correct. I did get a few things done this week.

Got another website customer, and another possible is in the works.

Created a new business card. Printing them next week.

Upgraded the iMac to 4GB of RAM. All I can say is holy crap!

Sent my resume out 5 times

Gave serious thought towards getting serious about starting my own company

Napped

Made another video to test iMovie ‘09. More on this later.

Made an episode of THCS. I need to order a new mixer bad.

Spent more time that I care to admit on Facebook

I can tell you about this site, which is cool. It’s a site for an old time Hot Rod guy (like, one of the pioneers of the whole thing) with cool photos and some history. He recently passed away and his family wants to be able to post old articles and photos and all that. Perfect job for Wordpress. I’ll let you know when it’s done so you can check it out.

I also have changes coming to this site. I put together some really cool stuff when I was ‘at the job’ and one of them was the coda slider. I’m going to try to incorporate into this site for latest posts, portfolio snippets, video and a contact form on the home page. Watch for that.

Go watch the video. It’s funny. I might post it here, but I forgot to not cuss, so maybe not.
