It’s been sometime since we’ve spoke and quite a lot has happened. Actually, not really that much has happened, but some stuff has happened. The biggest of those things that has happened is that I’m no longer gainfully employed. So, I’m back to keeping myself busy.
Job searches are happening as you would expect, but searching for work isn’t billable. I know, right? Back to doing what I do, plus a few extra things. 2 WordPress projects are in some fashion of completeness, I’ve done some on-site computer repair and I’m trying something completely new with photography.
I have decided to open whiteroofphoto.com. White Roof Photo is for my automotive and other photography. A place to keep a portfolio and a place to promote the service of automotive and event photography to those that might need it. I’ll be doing pool-side portraits at AMVIV X later this month and hopefully will get the chance to do some automotive portraits as well.
Otherwise, I am again offering my services for anything that you might need. PC/Mac configuration, repair and training. WordPress implementation and training. Social Media, community building and Internet marketing. Content creation (writing, audio, video, photo). I’m available for your project immediately! Click over the Contact page to get started.
I’ve also been feeling the need to write more. This makes me happy since it has been a while. I’m glad that is coming back. Expect to see more regular posts at all of the donburnside.com properties.
This coming October marks my 2nd full year in Arizona. This November 10-12 marks my third time attending and participating in PodcampAZTechPHX! Same un-conference format, same location, new name to better reflecting what it’s all about.
This year, as in years past, I will be speaking on Podcasting. This year too, **unlike** prior years, I will be sitting on a Podcasting Panel (!) which I’m pretty stoked about. And, to break things up a bit, I’m also going to speak on using Instagram.
3rd PodCampAZ TechPHX, 3 talks. Sounds about right.
Click the logo for the details. They are still hammering out the speaker schedule, but you can see all that have signed up so far on the TechPHX blog. Looks like another great line up in the works! Remember, it’s November 10-12 at the University of Advancing Technology, which happens to be right across the street from Fry’s Electronics.
There are nerds every where you go. Scifi nerds, comic book nerds, computer nerds. You know, nerds. Turns out, there are also nerds working at your local hospital’s emergency department, mostly in the imaging labs. A fact that I got to find out about first hand this week.
Sunday I had a mild soreness in my chest. It carried into Monday and increased in severity. Also increased was my heart rate (or at least it felt like it) and my anxiety level. I’ve never felt anything like it before. We can use the word scary, because it was.
I had Stella take me to the clinic across the street from the house. Arriving there and getting checked in, my chest pain changed from a dull ache to a sharp pain in the center of my chest. Also, my blood pressure was high. **Much higher** than normal in fact. And I was getting dizzy. And the anxiety was blinding. Continue reading “Hospitals have nerds too”
July 2012 is going into the calendar as one of the busiest months on record, especially when it comes to MINI Events. Most of you play the Don Burnside ™ home game, but for those of you that don’t, July was the month of MINI Takes the States (MTTS).
MTTS is an event put on by MINI USA to celebrate the MINI Cooper in the United States and to give something back to the owners. MTTS2012 was the 4th running of this event, and the best one yet. You can read and listen all about it over at White Roof Radio.
Because I was so busy with that event (both planning and attending), there are a few things that I haven’t been able to tell you about. Yet.

Going back to busy-at-my-desk mode again. Time to continue my path of world domination. And all of that begins in just a few minutes.
It’s been pretty busy around here lately! I’ve been Mr. All-Go-No-Quit. Today we changed that, if only for a few hours.
A Sunday Food Adventure
Like I mentioned above, it’s been busy. I was in California, then a weekend of nerd stuff capped by a grilled cheese throw-down (yes, it was as awesome as it sounds) and just non stop work. Even this weekend I had mad chores to do, but they did result in a very clean garage.
We decided an adventure was in order. We tossed around a few ideas and decided to do something that I haven’t done but was still relatively close to home. We made a trip out to Queen Creek Olive Mill for lunch and to see what’s what.
Turns out this is a pretty awesome place! First of all, they produce all of the olive oils sold in the store and used in the restaurant. Straight oil, infused oil, specialty oil. Not only that, but as you can imagine, they also do more than a few things with olives including pickled and stuff with things you would have never thought about before.
Besides the store and cafe, they also have a huge picnic area! Today it was populated by people enjoying a local wine and having their lunch. Or just sitting out and enjoying another beautiful Arizona winter day. I also found out they are working toward using the space for hosting weddings in the very near future, and it’s a perfect fit for that.
The only item we brought home was a 4 pack of cupcakes (made with thier infused olive oils, of course) and a few photos. Oh, and Stella made me fetch a letterbox prize for her since it was buried under some scary rocks.
Pretty great way to end a pretty good weekend. Enjoy the photos below and if you ever need something to do on a Sunday in Arizona, a trip out to Queen Creek might be just what you need!
