Referal Spam

This is the new one, but I just don’t get it.

My logs are getting hammered with referral spam. I’m talking 10 refs for each, over 50 sites.

Now, here is the odd thing.

I’m trying to block these from showing up. A WHOIS lookup to get the IP address says no such site. Clicking the link produces an error. These sites that are listed in my logs aren’t even valid addresses!

Now I have a question:

Why bother to juice the Google ranking of your site, if it’s not going to be there? Am I missing something?

Maybe, just maybe, those stupid ass lamers running open proxy servers are starting to get the hint and shutting them down.
