I have been working with WordPress since 2004. After playing with a few other content management systems, I quickly fell in love with it’s flexibility, ease of use and the abilty to make customizations quickly and easily. Since 2004, the features of WordPress have grown, and my skills in working with WordPress have grown as well.
I have created over 50 custom theme for clients and myself. Ranging from simple blogs to full blown websites managing hundreds of pages worth of content. You can see a list of some of those sites here and below.
Not only do those sites support all of the standard WordPress features that were available during the time they were built, they also include some customizations that I have created specifically for WordPress.
- Custom Navigation
- Online Catalogs
- Custom Photo Gallery
- Custom Post Types
If it can be done, there is a good chance that I can do it with WordPress.
Sometimes custom themes can take too long or not fit in a clients budget. I also have experience creating child-themes based on premium themes to help create what is needed at a lower cost and quicker turn-around.
One thing that I try to do as much as possible is to use the features of WordPress. I’ve seen sites that use plugins for features that are already in WordPress. One of the benefits of working with WordPress for almost 10 years is I know what it can and can’t do, right out of the box.
Some of my recent projects can be seen below. Some of them have been changed and no longer using a theme or features that I originally implemented. You can contact me for details on any of them or to get started with your next project.

Updated to the latest version of my framework, which includes better support for mobile devices and tablets, better widget support, support for custom headers and backgrounds. This framework is also lighter and faster than the original for better site performance.
Komen Candid AZ
Design and layout by Mike Jones of Resound Creative. I helped build the WordPress functionality, installed and setup the site on it’s server and assisted in assembly of the layout. Uses a heavily modified version of my framework, does not include support for mobile.
My framework when used as a CMS. This theme will soon be implemented here at Don Burnside.com. Custom sidebar navigation, drop-down menus, lots of widget areas and it’s responsive with custom features for mobile to allow for mapping and phone calls right from the site. Home page includes a slider. Also added custom post type support for galleries. Theme has since been changed.
