I was trying something new

Posted in Tech — by Don on 12/14/07

CJ sent me a link via del.icio.us for something that looked promising. Called Disqus, it’s supposed to be a forum-like comment replacement system. As it turns out, it doesn’t work with this theme and their forums are seriously lacking any information.

I might, however, give it a go for the tumblr like others have.

Thanks for the link CJ!

Man, if you get that thing to work on tumblr post a tutorial! I followed their instructions to the letter and no luck on cj.tumblr.com!

I got it running on futurabolditalic.com (my tumblog) without a hitch. Seemed pretty straightfoward, perhaps you missed a bracket somewhere Chris?

I tried putting it on mine and had the same problem I did here. They are there, kinda, but you can’t see them, effecting making them not work.

    hmmmm

    I got it working too!

The trick is to follow all of the directions on the disqus site for tumblr. Here is what I did.

Using the default code when you select custom layout, look for this

    <!-- end single post --> {/block:Posts}

Put the first block of disqus code directly after that. Then, to put in the comment link, look for

    {/block:Video} <a href="{Permalink}" class="permalink" rel="nofollow">Permalink &#8734;</a>

And put the following right after the close anchor tag.

    <a href="{Permalink}#disqus_thread" class="permalink" rel="nofollow">Comments (View)</a>

At least it worked that way for me.

Hehe. “The trick is to follow the directions”.

Ohhhh that’s how it is done.

now, you see. You have to go and make it a smart-ass-RTFM kinda thing, when really, it was more a wink and nudge, immediately followed by the correct action I took to make it work.

I also said that ’cause, um, I sorta didn’t even see step #3 and kinda skipped it ;)

ok, so i’m totally going to try this again today. i’m not sure what the hell I’m doing wrong but I am definitely jealous that it was that easy for you both.
