So, w(t)f spent yesterday and some of this morning in a complete state of borkage. Problem was with the ftp account I was using. Once I figured it out, I was able to upload the necessary files (latest greatest wp) and everything is exactly as it should be. I will take this as a great time to remind all y’all running wordpress that backing up is a very good thing and a great use of your gmail account. You should, probably once a week, run the wp-backup and have it sent to an email account (or download to your desktop). It also should go without saying that anytime you make a change to your theme, install a new theme or plug-in, you should also make a backup of your wp-content dir (copy in place or download to your desktop). But that’s rookie stuff that you knew already, right?

The reason it did spend yesterday borked is because I had to make an emergency trip to CCRM to fix their wLan. It was completely down and everything I can instruct them to do over the phone was done. Without wifi, they can’t take or manage houseboat bookings. So it definitely qualifies as an emergency.

I had them change the cable for the main access point already, so started checking out everything else, including the old cable. Nothing. So, I programmed a replacement access point (using Buffalo equipment down there, more on those in a later post) and put it in place. Still nothing. Well, not nothing, but the range was only about 100 feet, when it should have been about 1/2 mile. So, just for the heck of it, I replaced the cable again with their last new one (2 in reserve for just such an occassion) and wouldn’t you know it, it worked! Last time they ordered backup cables one of them was probably damaged during shipping. So, 3 hours of work and 9 hours in my car later, they are good to go. Snapped some cool pictures on the way down there if you want to check them out.

And I’m going to wonder who of this particular group (see the sidebar) will be the last to get Leopard. I think it will be me since I’m going to wait at least another week, maybe 2. Anyone waiting longer than that? And, for those of you that already have it…(I already got some conformation from jSchwa, but I’m, as always, looking for more feedback)

The dock on the right or left…works ok?

Anyone test the audio/video quality with iChat?

On the Intel machines, can you tell it is faster?

coverflow/preview work ok? Or is it real dodgy?

Anything else you would like to add?

I have decided to go ahead and up-g iLife while I’m at it, so I’ll do both at the same time. Still eyeing one of those 20″ iMacs too and I’m working toward making one my Christmas present this year.

Happy Sunday!

Wow, already 20 of these? Not too shabby. Today I shall talk about music. Well, kinda.

Recently a friend of mine purchased an Apple TV. I know, that’s what I said too. Even went nuts and got the 160GB model. I know, I know. I said that too.

But I got to talk to him about it. Why didn’t I know that the AppleTV played music? It’s essentially an iPod that isn’t portable and has a remote control. Nobody told me that either.

I’ve got quite a bit of music here at my desk. For the longest time I’ve been looking for an easy way to get that music to my kick-ass stereo. I’ve run wires. I’ve purchased devices. Heck, I’ve even plugged in my iPod. All give pretty good results, but what if I just want to plop down on the couch and turn something on?

Every other solution that I am aware of (including using an Airport Extreme) requires the computer. You have to hit play or start iTunes or something like that. While not horrible, I really don’t want an Airport (I prefer Buffalo devices, but we’ll save that for another day) and I’d really like to be able to just. Play. Music.

So why not an AppleTV? It lives with my stereo. If it’s in iTunes, it can see it. I can sit on the couch and start my music. Heck, with the right software, I can even push TV to it, or watch what I already have.

So it doesn’t do DVR stuff, but I already have one of those (plus transmission) so it’s not really necessary. I have a DVD player, so I don’t need it for movies but I could use it for that if I wanted too.

Does anyone know if it will play internet radio? The streams that open in iTunes (like SomaFM (Groove Salad…check it out!). It plays youtube, so I don’t see why it would play the streams.

Anyone out there have any experience with one of these? I know they are a bit spendy for a 40GB music player, but I think the convenience might be worth it.

Been a full week since I have posted.

I was a little off this week. I started to notice a certain technical bent in my posts of late, and I’ve been trying to find something else to post about, just to break things up.

Sure, I could have posted a rant too, but why be so negative? I was looking for funny. No dice. And trust me, it was not for my lack of trying.

You would think I would have something good to post right? I mean, it rained. In SoCal. I know I know, that’s just crazy talk you say. But for reals, it rained. I’m sure the news channels were on full on storm watch too, but I haven’t turned to TV on all weekend, so I wouldn’t know. Also decided to not do too much driving to avoid the idiots that totally freak out because a little bit of water gets on the ground.

I have a very busy month coming up. Car Wash Convention in 2 weeks (yes, I’m taking my camera this time) followed by a trip out to Mom and Dad’s for some way overdue maintenance. Then, back to Vegas again for SEMA. Yes, Paul (and you too Josh ), with my camera. Yes, there will be booth babe shots. Don’t worry, I’ll totally hook you guys up. Heck, I’ll even look for a bit of beefcake for the ladies.

Throw in some Street Tuner Challenge stuff, maybe a magazine shoot and a live show at WRR on October 4th (tip: get you a free account at TalkShoe) and finally the Portable Media Expo next week.

So, yea, I’ll be pretty busy. But don’t worry, know that I have internet with my not-an-iPhone phone, I’ll be able to post goodness from just about all of these events, including photos. So keep an eye out!

…or things that don’t really bother me

I don’t have an iPhone

Looking like I will be the last on the block. Now that all of you have one, I think that’s good enough. I’ll be the ‘cool’ kid that has something different. Suckers!

The 2M peeps in California that are defaulting on the home loans

You know, if your household income is less than $100K a year, you can’t afford a $450K home. Also, you are an idiot for not seeing that 1.4% teaser rate would go up to over 6% in 12 months. Suckers!

The banks that are eating about 2M home loans

You know, if you weren’t so desparate to hand money out to people that make less than $100K a year to buy a half million dollar house, you wouldn’t have to lay off so many people. I thought that’s what credit checks are for? Suckers!

NBC not on iTunes

I think I’ve already commented about this. The only show there worth watching (to me) is Heros, and I can get that via bit torrent. Suckers!

So, it’s been an interesting weekend here at el casa. The Verizon FIOS people, for some reason, can’t take my money, so I’m without internets, kinda. I got a call from one of the lads teachers on Friday. You can imagine why. Bonus I got in a huge fight with my crazy sister yesterday. But, at least I went to the gym this morning, made fun of the idiots with cell phones (in my mind) and yelled at people getting on the freeway at 45MPH. Oh yea, so you know, that was me honking at you because you were doing 30 in a 45. Sucker!
