Been getting the lad ready for school. Starts back on Monday and he is very excited to get back to it. I am also excited to get him out of the house during the day.
There might be some of you out there that are without children, or have children much younger than the Lad’s almost 16 years. Here are some things you can look forward to.
Registration High Schools now get you for:
- ASB Card
- Yearbook
- PE clothes
- Locker lock
- Photos
- Parking pass (if needed)
All before school starts. Grand total for me this year $177US.
Personal Items Needs for the new school year:
- Backpack – I don’t care what anyone tells me about those damned backpacks from the store that isn’t anywhere near my home or office, I’ll just buy a new one a year. Now leave me alone about it!
- Shoes – Size 13. Oh, that’s gross. Did you really think that? Man, he is my son. Knock that crap off you f’ing pervs. No cookies for you
- Shorts, shirts and socks (could throw skivvies in the list to make it the quad-fecta of S’s, but he’s good on those)
- Hair Cut
Grand total here approx. $250US
Moving on we have School Supplies, but it’s barely worth noting. At less than $30US, it barely makes a dent in things.
Transportation
Y’all know what a joy I find it to pay for a bus pass for the lad. This year, he stepped up and said he’d rather ride his bike. Good for me, until his bike was stolen.
- Bike that costs the same as a bus pass
Cost: $250US
Finally, one more good grocery shopping trip to ensure there are plenty of choices for breakfast so as to entice the lad to continue to eat before school and some good snacks for after school/before dinner. We’ll call this about $100.
Grand Total: kids cost to much.
Wait until later in the year when I gasp in horror at the price to put him on my auto insurance policy! Shriek with me in delight as he gets his first minimum wage job to pay for the car insurance!
So, yea. Start saving. Now would be a really good time to start.

Oh man, I totally should have gotten him one of those. I’m sure it would have exceeded my $50 budget for that item tho. I wouldn’t care ’cause that would be cool. Like, the underneath side of the pillow cool! Actually, it’s the exact same backpack I carried through Europe. Well, not the same one since it was stolen, but the same model.
DQ? I’m smellin’ employee discount! Dilly Bars as far as teh eye can see! WoOhOO!!1!
