Not really ever getting into Mandriva, I thought I’d try out something different for the extra box that I have sitting under my desk.
this time it’s Ubuntu. From the site:
“Ubuntu” is an ancient African word, meaning “humanity to others”. Ubuntu also means “I am what I am because of who we all are”. The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world
So far, I’m diggin’ it. Unlike Mandriva, it doesn’t come pre-installed with every known app under the sun. It also doesn’t give you a bazillion different ways to configure the computer easily. It’s also using the Gnome desktop instead of KDE, which I think I like better too.
I would have to say that if you are looking for a windows replacement, Ubuntu would be a pretty good way to start. Since I’m way more comfortable with this distro, I’m sure I’ll be using it more and keep you posted.
