Holy Crap, What a weekend!

Most of you have already been keeping up with the goings on from A MINI Vacation in Vegas via Facebook and Twitter. But for those of you that haven’t, here is the skinny.

All of the video (so far) is up at WhiteRoof.tv. Here is a sample.

You can check out the photos here. Be sure to do a search at Flickr for AMVIV as there are a TON of great photos from some of the best MINI photographers in the country!

Still more audio, a W(t)F video hour and a post or two to follow.

Vegas Bound

If you are reading this, then I’m on my way to Las Vegas for A MINI Vacation in Vegas! For those of you that don’t keep up with my work over on the MINI side, AMVIV is one of the largest MINI Cooper gatherings in the United States, taking place for the last few years at Palace Station.

If you would like to keep up, follow along at White Roof Radio. Everything will be getting posted there and at Motoringfile.

Something new this year will be the introduction of a live show (Saturday, around noon PST. Check your local listings) and a real video component. I will be taking the The Flip and the Canon. Flip video stuff you should be seeing over the weekend. Canon Video stuff will be showing up at Whiteroof.tv next week.

Have a good weekend y’all!

I Can’t Sell It

I keep thinking more and more about going out on my own and attempting to start my own business here in town. I know I could do something and maybe even be half-way successful. But there is a problem.

I can’t sell.

No, scratch that. I can sell. Hell yes I can sell. Ice cubes to Eskimos even. If people are coming to buy. I. Can’t. Cold call.

This has actually been bothering me since it’s keeping me from doing many things. But I have figured out what the problem is.

I won’t go where I’m not invited.

I have always, as long as I can remember, had a hang up about this. I don’t like walking up to strangers to talk. I don’t like to contact people that don’t know me. I don’t like being places unless I was specifically invited to be there. Makes me a horrible party crasher, I know, but it’s how I am. Part of the [quote]nice guy persona[end quote] I have most likely.

Socially awkward? Me? Oh you betcha. I do have a few tricks I can employ to get more over these particular humps when I really have to. Which makes me wonder why I can’t employ those same tricks to beat on doors and hock my wares.

For now I’ll keeping dropping resumes, trying to get a job with [quote]The Man[end quote]. I’m sure one of these days it will come to me across the board, not just when I’m [quote]podcast guy[end quote].

The New Facebook

Boy nobody likes the new Facebook do they? Wow. Like really hate it with the might and power of 10×912 suns. Serious, hardcore hate.

Here’s a little trick for you, in case you haven’t taken the time to poke around and see just how cool the new Facebook can be. Watch this.

On your main page, over on the left, you should see this.

Therein lies the power my friends. You can create your own lists! Filter the noise and only see what you want to see. And, it’s simple!

Start by clicking the friends tab at the top of the page.

On the left side of your friends page, you will see this.

Click where it says make a new list and to it add the friends you want. Family, celebrities, your favorite club, whatever you want. And, as far as I can tell, there is no limit to the number of lists you make. Heck, you could even make a list with only one person in it if you are a stalker like that.

Once the list is done, your homepage will have the new list showing on the left. You can see in the example above that I have a list called MINI. MINI Owners only in that one for me, when I want to only see what’s happening with them.

Hopefully this helps. The new Facebook is different to be sure, but there are some great features there, you just have to dig a little bit.

Facebook Connect mod

You might remember my Facebook Connect how-to that I posted back in January. I got a request about how to modify the widget in the shape of a comment, but I deleted by mistake. I did reply via email and thought I would add it here for wiki purposes.

From Archchef at casualgaminformer.com comes this question.

Is there a way to disable the “Last visitors” section in the widget? I don’t exactly want nor need it but can’t find any way of killing the darn thing :)

This one is very easy. To remove the part of the widget you don’t want to see, open fbconnect_widget.php and scroll down to line 31, or there about. There are 2 lines below that, remove them, save and upload. You should be good to go. If you want the code, leave a comment below and I’ll hook you up.

I know the plugin still isn’t 100% here. I hope to have that fixed before I go to Vegas this coming weekend.
