The Sunday Post 52

It was bound to happen sooner or later.

The Family found my blog

A few weeks ago I sent my aunt a link to my first film transfer video. You know, she’s in it and I thought she would get a kick out seeing that, a bit of sneak peak of things to come if you will. Well, she started clicking other things appearantly. Then I got a phone call saying how this is sooo funny or that was funny or interesting. I’m trying to figure out what she was talking about, since nothing on Viddler is that funny. Then I got the lightbulb and the bell.

Oh shit, she found w(t)f.

As she found it, so did a couple of my cousins. I think Mom might have even stopped by.

Oh shit, Mom is here too?

Well, now that you are here, welcome to w(t)f. Everyone, meet Mom, Jeannie and Big L. Mom, Jeanie and Big L, meet everyone. Don’t worry, everyone here is pretty nice.

Otherwise, the video transfer project has moved into Phase 2: sort and organize. After transferring close to 3k feet of film, I am ready to move on. I’m really starting to realize how underpowered the MacBook is too. Even in VisualHub it took hours to convert the files from the camera into DV format ready for editing. I won’t tell you the one time I tried to import from the camera into iMovie it was going to take 90 minutes for 15 minutes worth of video however. Still, better than attempting it on either of my Grandfathers machines, since they are both Pentium 4’s with 512K of RAM. Sure, they would work, but I have a deadline of Christmas I’m trying to hit.

Is it Spam?

I’m doing work for a few people right now. Big on their list of tools for thier business is Email Marketing, and for the most part, they run very successful campaigns.

But is it Spam?

How many times has this happened to you.

  1. You sign up for an email newsletter
  2. You get the email newsletter and enjoy it
  3. The email newsletter calls you a bad name or looks at you funny
  4. You break up with the email newsletter, but can’t find the unsubscribe link
  5. You mark the email newsletter as spam (You’ll show it who’s boss!)
  6. Email newsletter makes pleas and begs to come back into your inbox
  7. You have to issue a restraining order against the email newsletter
  8. You start getting calls from email newsletters friends and family, asking why you broke up
  9. You move to a new state, change ISPs and email providers.
  10. You now live in a rock on top of a mountain leeching wifi from the waste processing plant, but you are no longer seeing email newsletter. Break-up complete!

But really, you signed up for it? Is it right to mark it as Spam? It really isn’t, is it?

I’ve noticed that anytime I sign up for something via email they are almost always really good about including an unsubscribe link. When I no longer want the newsletter, I use that link to unsubscribe. I figure it’s the least I can before blasting them into Spam oblivion across multiple email providers.

Now, if after 2 weeks I’m still getting email from them, they get the Spam treatment. Fuckers.

I’m sorry, you said a smoking gorilla?

Why yes, yes I did.

I’d keep an eye on Josh for something too. I gave him a copy to have fun with. C’mon, it’s a smoking gorilla! Can’t beat that. And watch for the singing polar bear at the end.
