Trying out Viddler

First, the video. Yes, my MINI getting washed with the song titled Tunnel Run from IJ. I thought it was appropriate.

Pretty good quality and quite speedy. Took less than 10 minutes for this one to process. You can comment, video comment and all kinds of neat things on the video too. Take a few minutes to check it out.

Also, check out the new plug-in. Video comments. Crazy. Those kids at Viddler are up to some cool things. Check out the latest Net@Nite podcast for more info. You can download the Wordpress plugin here.

Thanks Josh for the tip.

So you want to buy a Mac?

Something to help you out, if you are thinking about buying a Mac. I really wish I would have found something like this when I bought mine. Might have saved me some headache. Here we go!

As I mentioned before, if your primary use for the Mac will be anything except a lot of image editing, any video editing of movies longer than 5 minutes or playing video games, get any Mac. You’ll have plenty of power, even for audio editing. Just make sure you get at least 2gb of RAM.

If you are a photoshop wizard, spend your time resizing and cropping very large pictures, have to edit any video or want to play video games, do not get the MacBook, MacBook Air or the Mac MINI. They do not have the horsepower to complete these tasks and they will bring your computer screeching to a smoking halt, crash and repeat until your frustration grows to an uncontrollable level and you start with the throwing of things or kicking of things or the blowing up of shit with the rocket launcher because you were too lazy to find the plasma cannon. Yes, that bad.

If I had the budget, I’d build out a nice Mac Pro with dual quad core processors and 4GB or RAM. But, since that costs well over US$4K, I’ll stick with the high end 20″ iMac and boost the RAM to 4GB. Since pricing on that machine is very much on par with a similiarly equiped Dell, I think, for now, I’ll stick with the Mac. There is enough other cool stuff here that I would hate to be without.

At least, until I get famous. Then I’ll build me up something that would fit in just fine in the Pixar rendering farm.

The Sunday Post, XXXIII

Things I like

Picked up a few things or downloaded a few things or tried something new over the last few weeks.

The Flip Ultra. Just a cool little device. Handy, small, easy to use. I just need more computer to speed up the edits.

Gorilla Pod Ok, seriously, this thing rocks. How can this much awesome only cost $20? Really? If you don’t have one, you should. I have used it with the The Flip as you have seen, but I have also tried it with my camera. The results are amazing!

Camino Yes, Camino. The browser. The one that, according to everyone, used to kinda suck. The same one I talked about last week. It’s as close to getting a version of Firefox updated for Leopard that you will find. Smokin’ fast, more like Firefox than Safari with some of the nice Safari features. Worth checking out, or revisiting if it has been a while. I’ve been using it for over a week and so far so good.

I still have Firefox, but I only open that when I need FTP or to snag/get properties of a background image (like Safari, you can’t do that in Camino).

Not drinking coffee I’m still undecided about this, but I think it’s having a positive effect. For the last 2 weeks I’ve dropped coffee from my daily routine and replaced it with tea. I can tell you I’m not feeling super-duper-so-tired-it-hurts in the middle of the day. I do know I had a triple latte last weekend and I crashed hard about an hour after I finished it. I’m still drinking coffee, but pretty much only on the weekends. Heck, I even bought a cooker for the office and a fresh box of Earl Grey.

New Wordpress goodies I’ve been playing with RSS capture again. This time for Motoringfile. It’s going to be cool, trust me. Check out db.com to see what it is. If you see photos from my flickr, come back and tell me to get on the ball!

My workout I’ve made a few changes, focusing more on my ‘core’ (god, did I just type that? I really really hate that term) and less on my arms and legs. To that end, I have been doing more exercises that use my own body weight for resistance (the helper bar dip/pull up machine) and doing more sit-ups. Oh yea, and I tripled my cardio.

My huge equipment purge At the office. So far, phase 1 has consisted of elimination of over 50 pieces of electronics equipment. Phase 2 was the re-organization/cleaning of my space. Phase 3 will include the final recycle purge and end with Phase 4 which will be getting rid of the last of the working equipment either via donation or very cheap sell off to employees. If anyone is in SoCal and might be interested in an IBM NetVista with a PIII 700 and 128MB or RAM running Win2K, let me know. I have a potential of 7 and they will be going cheap!

If I did everything I was supposed to this weekend, MV.tv should be almost ready to go live. I’m trying hard to shoot for Wednesday, but we’ll see if I can get the content together. Watch this space for more info.

MV.tv

Due to technical difficulty, motoringvideos.tv has been put on hold indefinitely.

If you already subscribed, no need to un-subscribe as the feed address and email update won’t change.

I’m hoping for a June launch. Sorry to get you excited about it so early.
