And, oddly enough, I decide to talk about personal security and keeping your identity safe. I have no idea where I got the idea.

No iTunes yet. I really want to make sure this is something I’m going to do for a bit first.

This is not what I wanted to read today. To be fair, Dell only had 1. Gateway and Lenovo have the most so far.
On July 20th, ENERGY STAR’s new specifications for computers went into effect. Apple currently does not have one computer that meets the new requirements.
January ‘08 is the deadline. This should be fun to watch!

I am also in the process of doing some category shuffling. I’ve now grouped all of the Sunday Posts into their own, plus added a few others.
That is all.
There are only a few things that I really enjoy doing. First is anything technology related as you might already know. Next would be anything relating to cars, especially the MINI Cooper.
The other is cooking. Yes, I’m a guy. Yes I like to cook.
I have plenty of gadgets and great gear in my kitchen too. A nice set of Henkel knives, a kick ass coffee pot, great pans and the like.
During my trip to Europe, all of the hotel rooms have these really cool contraptions in them. Unlike here in the states, where the rooms have those small coffee makers, over there they all have electric kettles.
What a fantastic device! I’ve heard of them before, but I’ve never seen one in action. boiling water super fast and they turn off once the water boils! Almost like magic.
Well, as it turns out, I was appearantly the very last person on the planet to own one. Every time I brough up this cool device to anyone the response was always “Oh yea, I have one. It’s great and I’ve been using it for years!”. Years you say? And I’m only finding out how great they are about a month ago? I’m not going to say anything about a lack of sharing going on here, but instead I will tell you that I can now count myself among the ranks of those who own an electric kettle.
But why would I need one living in SoCal during the summer?
You see, I’m also a bit of a coffee drinker. Some would call me a coffee snob, but I don’t think I’m that bad. Anyway, I do likes my coffee. But there are occassions when either I don’t want coffee in the morning or (and more likely) when I run out of coffee. When that happens, a nice cup of Earl Grey tea with a spot of milk does the job quite nicely.
But with the stove top kettle, it takes longer to boil the water then it does for a pot of coffee to brew. How annoying. And, no, I won’t use the microwave. I have mugs that I think are painted with lead based paints or something so they get so hot I can’t touch them. Sure, I could also use a pyrex measuring cup, but when is the last time you went searching for yours all bleary eyed because you have only been awake for 5 minutes? This is what I’m saying. So, electic kettle to the rescue!
Good chance I even used it this morning to have a cup of tea. Not because I didn’t want coffee, but because it’s there.
Due to things happening earlier in the week, I had all of my small personal electronics with me, as you could understand. One of those items is my Edirol R-09 digital recorder.
So, I used it.
As you might already know, I do spend more time in my MINI than the average bear. Roughly 10 hours a week, sometimes more. Why not take advantage of that time, right? And, since it has been mentioned that I should attempt to do another show, and since I’m not really made of time, I took a cue from Robert in Toronto and did some recording in the MINI.
Soundseeing tour? Nope. Any automotive talk? Nope Rants? You might think, but again, nope.
It has actually been suggested that a podcast on technology be done. So, I gave it go. Here is what I’m thinking.
- Short (less than 20 minutes).
- Focus on 1 topic
- Possibly post it here to use as a discussion point
- Done in the MINI
So, I’ve done one. Episode zero is currently up on Pownce, but you are going to have to be my friend to download and listen, since it is my first. Don’t worry, I have 7 invites left if you want to get in and check it out. It’s appropriate that I have posted it there, since it is a short review of the service and what I think it could be used for.
If the feedback is positive enough, I’ll work on bringing it here. If I can get 10 episodes done on some kind of regular schedule, then I’ll put it in iTunes.
Production might usually be fairly rough. I’m going to record, mix to mp3 and upload. No background music (unless something is playing on the iPod) or fancy intro’s or outro’s. Just me talking. I will try to do it while I’m keeping a steady speed to keep the background noise low, but I still have to downshift on occasion
.
If you are already on Pownce, friend me up and you can check it out. If you are already in my friends list, give it a listen (there is a player in th pownce window) and let me know what you think. Don’t worry, it’s short like I said, coming in at about 10 minutes and less than 5mb.
Again, if you listened and want to comment, go ahead and do that here. Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated!
