Happy Easter, for those of you so inclined.
Being from a family that is less than religious, this is a day that was always spent at the Grandparents house, decorating hard boiled eggs and eating chocolate.
My Grandmother used to totally hook the kids up. They had a good sized piece of property with tons of landscaping features that were perfect for hiding eggs. And, if the weather was nice, there might be a few trinkets to find at the bottom of the pool.
Her favorite trick was to use the big plastic eggs that panty hose used to come in and stash cash or gift certificates in them. There was always the right number hidden and sometime they were child specific. I never picked up on that when I was younger, but it was a little odd when Mom or Grandma would direct kids to a certain part of the yard with some good hints.
The day would then end with a fantastic meal and the obligatory hour-of-picture-taking that would happen. While not as bad as Christmas, it was close.
Weather permitting, as I already mentioned, today could also mark the opening of pool season. Of course, we always had to wait 1/2 hour after eating lest we explode or barf in the pool or something. Man, those old wives tales were awesome!
The point is, even though my Easter was never, ever spent at church, it always was spent with family. We still do this, although on a smaller scale, today.
So, if you are wondering where I am, I’m probably manning the grill at my sister’s house. I only do that since she will be boiling eggs and I can’t even be in the house while that is going on. Honestly, how do you people eat those nasty things? Ick.
Happy Easter everyone!
I’ve been trying to use the Macbook as my primary machine for the last 2 weeks. So far, so good. I do have a few issues that I’m still trying to get over.
- The lack of a forward delete key is driving me nuts.
- The
lack of a page up/page down keyability to use them is hard to find. The fact that F5 doesn’t refresh. This was fixed, not adjusting volume requires the ctrl key. No sweat.- The size of the screws where the memory installs is insanely small. Do I have to take this to a jeweler to have them removed?
- Getting a program, that is running, to reappear is turning into an issue. I end up having to close the program and restart it. What a pain. The Window option doesn’t always work for all programs either.
- 3-key keyboard combo’s suck.
Later today I will be picking up a copy of Mac OSx for dummies or the book jSchwa recommended. That should help a ton!
There is one more thing that I’m finding to be a small problem. That is storage. Primarily, document, music and picture storage.
This morning I plugged the iPod into the Mac.
First up, yes, it still works. I know there was a rumor floating around somewhere that said the best way to kill your iPod was to move it from one O/S to another. Well, mine still works.
Then I went ahead and formatted it to work on the Mac, since I plan on moving all of my music/podcasts to it anyway.
Unplugged it, wound up the cable, put the cable in my bad and iPod in my pocket.
Pulled the iPod out of my pocket to put it in it’s place in the MINI. Hit the menu button.
Now my iPod is speaking what I am guessing to be Japanese.
/me thinks I bumped it in my pocket, so now I’m on the wrong language.
The moral of the story is don’t reformat your iPod and then stick it in your pocket before answering the questions on the screen.
I’m sure you have all seen this by now, right?
Not this time. Jobs backed up his rhetoric with action this week, announcing a ground-breaking deal with London-based EMI Group, one of the four large conglomerates that dominate the recording industry. Starting in May, Apple’s iTunes store will sell almost all of EMI’s music online without copy protection - if customers are willing to pay a 30 percent premium.
That’s right. No. DRM.
Besides the lack of DRM, you will also get a higher bit-rate track (256 instead of 128) as long as you don’t mind spending an extra $.30 per track.
I think per track it’s a pretty good deal if I am only buying 1 or 2. But, if the non-DRM price stays constant when buying an album, I’m not sure the iTMS convenience is worth an extra $3.
What do you think?

Had some running around to do today. No, I can’t tell you I was out and about getting my passport, so don’t ask.
A trip to the county clerks office was easy and my first stop of the day. Everyone there was very nice and extremely helpful. Even after I left and came back, the lobby was full of people and all of the employees were still nice and smiling!
2nd stop of the day was to the post office in one of the longest lines I have ever waited in. All of the high school kids must be having Mexico trips this summer or something. Only 1 clerk to process everything too, but she was a trooper. When my turn finally came, she chatted and joked with me like I was her first customer of the day. Yes, this was at the post office.
Final ‘waiting’ stop of the day was at one of my local Starbucks. Someone called in sick so the store was a bit of a mess and the girls behind the counter were a little harried. Still, every customer was greeted with a smile and thanked on their way out the door. And, yes, I did leave a tip.
Just kinda nice was it happens all day.
