how did I miss this?

I’m sure I’m the last person on the internet to see this, but man is it funny! Bonus is that it’s safe for work (or Karin’ kitchen table;) )

Ubuntu for your grandmother.

Feelin’ this…

They say its for geeks, they say its for nerds, they say its for those whose pinkie finger has the imprint of the enter key tattooed on it. We say its for your grandmother ! An article about how to install and configure UBUNTU linux so our grandmother could use it.

Everytime I get a spyware call I’m always tempted to do this.

Don’t worry, a real post will be coming soon enough.

14 year-old charged $22,000+ library fine for six-day overdue book

oops

Thanks to a merger of two library computer systems, a 14 year-old boy was charged $22,840 for a book that was overdue by six days. Solid work by the QA dude on that merger!

Nice work. Too bad, that was probably the programmers bonus.

Monitor resolution

how do you do it?

You. Yes, you. Over there. Yes, the one running your display at 1600×1200 resolution. How do you do it?

I’m sitting here right now on the new lappy, with a wxga display running at 1280×800. I would like to lie to you and say that I don’t have to use the [ctrl]-[+] trick in firefox, but I can’t do that.

Not only that, but I have already spent 2 hours tweaking windows to make everything more readable for me. I know my eyes are bad, but on a screen that’s only inches from my face?

The biggest gripe about the larger resolutions is they just give me a headache. It must be that trying to read type that’s about 2pt doing it, I’m not sure.

Anyway, just a little mid week blowin’ off steam. It’s that or I can bitch about my sleep again, but I thought I’d change it up a little.

Please listen

Dear person that wants to be my customer,

I’m glad you have thought of me for your technology needs. I’m sure you have seen my work first hand or were referred to me by someone I have already done work for.

During our initial conversations when I ask you exactly what you are attempting to achieve, I will offer some suggestions (quite possibly, for website hosting). Please pay attention to this, as it’s very important.

Failure to pay attention can result in delays in project completion and cost over runs. Did I mention SUBSTANTIAL overruns?

I know you came to me. Please trust me when I say I know what I am doing. Please keep this thought alive: There is a reason I can do what I do for so cheap

Thank you
