buying computers

As I mentioned in my previous post, I was down at the resort installing new computers for a snazzy new reservation system they are putting in. Nothing special, just generic HP office boxes (probably cost about $400 each), they aren’t the fastest, but since they are primarily doing internet and wordprocessing, they are perfect.

Now, can someone tell me, why would you put a $600 19″ LCD display with a $400 low power office PC? Anyone? Yea, that’s the other part I installed. 19″ HP LCD displays. They are really nice and I would be proud to have one on my desk. But for internet? And some word processing?

That is pretty typical for that company. Completely waste a big pile of money that easily could have been used elsewhere, like a new reservation system for the motel or other sites that need upgraded PC’s or reservations for their motel. Incredible how little people there think. Dad totally agrees, so there is that.

One thing I think I have failed to mention is that CCRM is ISO certified. To those of you that don’t know what that means, they do everything right, 105% of the time. Everything is documented with a procedure and training process. EVERYTHING is.

Except for the new houseboat reservation system.

It has been installed and there aren’t any documents for it. There aren’t any training procedures for it. Hell, they barely showed the users how it works. If it were me, I’d be all ‘get that crap off my property until you have docs and procs for me, beeeatch!’.

Well, as it turns out, it is not up to me. I’m sure everything will sort itself out.

my phone

I’m back! As you know, I spent all of last week in Vegas (full write up here) and this week playing catch up.

So, here I am, writing to you on this sunny Sunday after loosing an hours sleep. Let’s get everyone up to speed…

Vegas was a 2 part trip. 1st part was at CCRM where I was to install a few nodes of the wireless network and some new computers. In an attempt to be clever, I’m sure I did something because I managed to kill the entire network. I was able to get 2 of the repeaters back up and talking to the master access point, but no others. So, I have 5 wireless access points here in the house that I will be attempting to reconnect to each other this week.

The other part of the Vegas was the MINI event. Check the link above. I have pictures even (sorry Josh, I tried, but no boobs).

Then this week, as I said, I’ve been playing catch up. I had to deal with some sponsorship stuff for the show, get some work done on a site I’ve been working on, do laundry plus some work stuff. Oh yea, and I slept. Alot!

But, during this, I was able to upgrade my phone. My contract with Verizon just came due so I qualified for a huge discount on a new phone since I just renewed my contract for another 2 years (say what you will, but everywhere I go or have been, Verizon works great). So I poking around the website, seeing what I could get for as cheap as possible. Turns out, if I could do all of this online, I could get a Razr for free! And, since it’s been a while since I have had a ‘cool’ phone, I figured why not. It’s pretty cool. Not much thicker than the Nano with blue tooth and a camera. It plays videos too, but I don’t want that. Never thought I would use a camera on my phone either, but I’ve been enjoying it, so it is now a gotta have feature. The old phone? Still kickin’, but now it’s hooked up to the Lad’s number. He was pretty excited about that.

So anyway, I’m back. I should be back on track with posts and funny stories and rants and whatnot.
