Just listen, would ya?

Lately I’ve been avoiding calls from my family. Seems everytime they call it’s because they need to complain about money or technology or work or whatever. Of course, once they are done they don’t bother to take the time to listen to me.

So, I’m on not call mode. Yes, to mom too.

I’m not asking for a lot. I’m a professional listener. I worked in restaurants for 15 years and help desk for another 3. It’s a must have skill, in my opinion, for both of those jobs. I just want my fair share of time with their ear, ya know?

Otherwise, you must get the new 311, Don’t Tread On Me. It’s simply fantastic!

a few things, real quick
  • Nothing finer, really, than a hot shower with a cold beer
  • got my Zen back from being repaired. I am, again, a podcast listening fool!
  • another server move in the works for the rest of the db family of sites
  • School starts back next week…about f’ing time!

so, I’ve been a little busy. I’ll have a real post later. My ‘blog queue is quite full and a purge is definitely in order.

help desk

So, was still working on the server yesterday. In case anyone is wondering, consistency check on a raid array takes about 8 hours.

Spent over 16 hours doing hard drive stuff on the server. Who wants to know what fixed it?

Turns out there is an issue with APC services. My guess is that they don’t work well with the latest windows update. Services disabled, server booted right up like it is supposed to.

Just wish I could have figured out the 5 minute fix before the 16 not-fix. ugh

p-aaaaarrrrrr-tay!

to me? it’s formatting a 30gb SCSI drive, then adding it back into the array with it’s brothers while downloading server logs at the impressive speed of 5.5KB/sec.

FUN!!!!!

This stuff ONLY happens to me

I, like everyone else, have the occassional PC problem. I, like almost everyone else, also have the occassional server issue at one of the sites I support (02 and 00, respectively).

Now, when I have a PC issue, I’m all over the M$ knowledge base and can usually find the problem, what caused it and how to fix it in less than 30 minutes.

So, my question is, why is it when I look for something concerning 03 or 00 I can not find an answer? Not only can I not find the answer, I can’t find the problem, the event ID or the text that is the error. Am I the only one that’s ever received Event ID: 34 with the text:

An error occurred while trying to determine the number of mouse buttons.

Can you believe that searching the KB for either the full text, part of the text or the Event ID yields zero results?

It’s a great source of information. I just wished when I search that I could get relevant results.

Maybe it’s mad because I use firefox, not IE, when searching?
