Many of you might not be aware of this, but I don’t have a college education, nor do I have any kind of formal technology training. In fact, about the only kind of training I have is for operating a forklift and training. It’s one of those things I’ve been meaning to change, but have never gotten around to doing.

So I started thinking that now would be a pretty good time to do that, seeing how I have a little bit of extra time. It would be nice to have a certificate or two in my quiver and on my resume. Of course, a little bit of class time wouldn’t be such a bad thing either.

Then I start checking prices. Almost every place I checked it costs almost US$10,000 to take the classes and the tests to become a certified Microsoft engineer (MCSE). Holy crap. That’s more than a little out of my budget. Hell, just taking the required tests would drive me even further into the poor house than I am right now.

Still, it’s something I want to do, so it’s time to do some research. I’m pretty good at self educating, so I should be able to handle getting this task done on my own. While the tests are expensive, it’s still cheaper than test + instruction time.

It’s a good thing Google is my friend.
