…And I still don’t have my drivers license

Some of you might recall my wallet, among other things, being stolen from my house back in July of last year.

Some of you might even remember me trying to get my drivers licenses again.

Well, I’ve been busy, so today was the first chance I had to get to the DMV to get it, again. I actually need it to run a credit report so I can rent a house.

So, I go to the DMV. Fill out the form, get a number and wait. And wait. About an hour passes and my number is called. It’s early, so everyone is still in relatively good spirts. I go to the appointed clerk and tell her I need a copy of my D/L. She checks my passport vs. the form I filled out vs. the record on her computer. So far, so good.

Then, she says my licenses has been suspended, back in August ( ! ) for a failure to appear! I told her I already took care of that, back in August. She apologized, gave me her name and said I had to go to the courthouse again ( ! ) and have them send it through.

So, I go to the courthouse. I wait and wait. About 1/2 hour there, which isn’t so bad. I tell the very nice clerk there my dilema so she pulls the record and confirms that, yes, I did in fact pay the fine and everything should be good to go. She prints out some things, jots down notes on one of them, including my phone number, and places it directly on the persons desk who is supposed to take care of that. She said it would get done as soon as possible and she offered to call me when it was done. But, that process can still take 5-7 business days!

Of course, once they put it through, I still have to go back to the DMV to get my license.

Fuck.

The Move Approaches

Last week I got to look at one of the houses on my list. Liked it, liked it fine. Almost the same size as the house here, but with a larger, quite cavernous in fact, kitchen. Nice garage, laundry room attached to the house and some storage space under the house. and at $1200 a month, a screamin’ deal!

I have to go to the DMV today to get my drivers license. Yes it has been that long. Yes, I know I suck. Hey, it’s not like I don’t have ID, I’ve been using my passport. Ok ok ok. I get it. Lay off already. Sheesh.

If all goes well, I should be moving in about 2 weeks. Fingers crossed and all that.

Location? Exactly 1 minutes drive from the house. Unless I don’t have to wait for the garage door, then it’s only about 45 seconds. I’m sure I could make it faster, but why rush?

In other news, I ordered a new pair of shoes for the gym. Weeeeee

Bacon

I share this with you on this day in hopes that you get to have some bacon. It also reminded me of the time I took the lad to the local injun casino for Sunday Brunch.

He was younger than he is now, which doesn’t say much. Old enough to navigate the buffet solo at any rate. So, I’m off getting my share of whatever it was that day and go back to the table. I look over at the teh lad to see that he has also gotten his share.

Of bacon.

Yes, an entire plate filled with nothing but bacon.

Oh to be 12 again…

The Sunday Post, XXXI

I’ve been really struggling lately for things to post. I get ideas, run them in the my head, sit down to post and poof, they are gone.

Good, quality stuff too. Even a rant or three. I know, crazy.

While I am in my writers slump, be sure to keep an eye on the Flickr. I’ve been posting pictures like nobody’s business. I’ve also been stumbling around and posting neat things I find to the tumblr.

I also recently got an invite to Seesmic. Like a video blogging thing. They are running a public alpha, so it’s pretty rough. For example, my first video didn’t even get saved. But, if I can get that working, I’ll be sure to post that here.

Otherwise, I’m sure I’ll be back on track fairly soon. These slumps don’t normally last more than 2 weeks. I know it’s that long ’cause jSchwa starts giving me grief if I do!

Fauxtatoes

I just realized that this is one that I haven’t shared with you. I can’t believe it. It’s one of the best tricks-that-I-stole-from-TV recipes I have. Bonus is it is very simple.

The Goods

  • 1 head cauliflower. 2 if you have more than 4 people
  • butter
  • milk
  • salt and pepper to taste

The needs

  • A big pot

What we are going to do is make mashed cauliflower. Yes, just like potatoes. Yes, just as yummy. Ready?

Boil or steam the cauliflower until it is very tender. A fork or knife should easily slide in. Strain.

Bring them back to your pot and finish like you would mashed potatoes. The texture won’t be quite as smooth, but you should be able to get it pretty close.

Additions

  • A bit of garlic in the pot while you cook would be nice
  • Add a small amount of horseradish during the mash to kick them up a bit
  • Chopped green onions or parsley would go nicely as well

Best With

Use these like you would mashed potatoes. Serve them with beef, pork, chicken or fish. Keep the gravy boat in the cupboard tho as it will be way to heavy and overpower the taste.

If you cook these ahead and mash them without butter, refrigerate and add a small amount of red wine vinegar. Serve with salad greens.

Enjoy!
