Rain?

Posted in Observations,Personal,Thoughts — by Don on 01/28/07

In Southern California? Apparently Ma’ Nature didn’t get the memo.

In other news…

I went to a wedding reception Saturday night that was for a wedding in November. Beautiful morning here at the house. Still pretty ok when I got to the gym and it looked a little overcast when I was getting my car washed. Even went so far as to pull the MINI into the garage, give her* a coat of wax, clean up the inside and dress the tires**.

After all that, I went to get a haircut and a gift card. Came home to discover the pants I bought, that I thought were a 38 waist (yes, I am a fatty, get over it) were actually about a 32, maybe a 34. Regardless, they didn’t fit, but that is a topic for another time. Found another pair of pants I could wear plus a shirt (bonus!) and headed out.

Get about 1/2 way into my 100 mile drive and it started. Just a light misting, not even rain, really. Then the mist got heavier as I drove further north. Before too long, what was falling from the sky could really be called rain. Not a downpour or anything, but real, honest-to-goodness rain.

Rained all during dinner too. And pictures. And cake. And the uncomfortable-ed-ness*** of trying to talk to people I didn’t know (I give myself a B-. I just signed up for charm school). Heck, even rained on the way home until I was about 1/2 way into my 100 my return drive.

So much for getting the car washed. Now I’m going to have to do it again tomorrow.

*Yes, my car, the MINI, is a she. For those of you that are new to w(t)f, you already know this. Don’t say her name or you will have to take a drink.

**I didn’t actually put clothing on the tires of my MINI. Just because I gave her a name doesn’t make me a total wacko nutjob. Dressing the tires is the process in where you apply a very slippery substance to a tire to make shine all nice and pretty.

***Watch out! I’m makin’ up words again. Nobody is safe!

That besides being a pretty funny comedian, actor, director and overall man about town, that wild and crazy guy can also play a mean banjo!

Don’t believe me?

Typoes

Posted in Rants,Things I hate — by Don on 01/25/07

This one has been building up for a little bit. So, I’m going to get right to it.

rant ON

I really wish I had the balls, gall or whatever it is that is required to point out typos, grammatical errors or other mistakes make on a public website to the author. Really. Nothing would make me happier that to be a part of the grammar police.

It has never happened hear, but that’s because I think you, the loyal w(t)f reader, is kind, understanding and now that I just throw these posts up quick beofre I loose the thought.

But at the other site, my readers there (which, BTW, outnumber you 1000 to 1) are a little pickier. It’s still a blog, but damn if I have a typo and someone isn’t all over it like a bum on a ham sandwich.

While I can appreciate the fact that someone has actually taken the time to either run spell check for me on my posts or they are English majors that see it as their duty to point out such travesties (you w(t)f reading English majors are excluded), I really don’t appreciate the fact that they see it as their job to play grammar police.

I’m trying gang. I know I have to since I am also posting on a site that outnumbers the other sites readers about a million to one. I’ve stepped up my writing, using w(t)f as a practice area. I’m using spell check (no, not here) and re-reading my posts to check for grammar mistakes, misplaced ‘ (it’s and/or its) and making sure to virtually dot my i’s.

But I, and others like me, make mistaks. It’s only natural that we do. As much as it bothers me to say this, I am not perfect!

I would really just like a wee bit of slack. Not a whole lot, just a little. I don’t think that’s asking too much.

rant OFF

Again, as usual, thank you for reading. All typos in this particular document were intentional as far as you know and no characters were hurt during the posting of this message.

And, if you twitter, feel free to add me to your friends. Or, just keep an eye on the widget over there to see what kind of weird randomness I might or might not type.

First, up-g’s to WordPress 2.1.

Next, a new theme. Didn’t make it myself either (a first bTW). Just wanted to make a change and make it now.

added a twitter widget too. Stalkers unite!

Let me know what you think!

Yes I am

Fairly weird. Of course, most of you know that by now. If you aren’t sure, spend a few minutes going through the archives here (might I recommend July, 2005?) and you’ll soon figure it out.

Anyway.

I have developed another sleep related issue. No, not the lack or inability to sleep. In fact, since I started going to the gym I’m actually sleeping quite well thankyouverymuch. Nary a bout of insomnia in the last month a change, which is awesome.

No, I have started to sleep walk.

But here’s the thing. I am fully aware of exactly what I am doing as I do it. The most typical scenario goes something like this.

I wake up and stumble out of bed. I look at the clock but it doesn’t register the time, I just know I’m too tired to be awake. I make my way to the kitchen to start my morning pot o’ joe. Now here changes somewhat. Sometimes I will actually hit the go switch on the pot BEFORE I realize that it is 1:10 AM. Sometimes I realize the time before, shake my head and go back to bed.

This morning as I’m looking at the pot, which I know I set to brew at 5:15, wondering why it’s empty. So I turned it on. At the very instant I did that, I knew I messed up. Of course, it was cold when I woke up 5 hours later (so much for the gym this morning) so I nuked a cup and brewed a new pot.

But at least I am sleeping! For which I am eternally grateful to the sleep gods. Lets keep that going guys, ok?

Oh yea, the new My Cruise Planner site is up and running. You should go over there, check it out and subscribe to the podcast (handy link in the sidebar over there). It’s a great show about cruising, news from the cruise industry and even a great interview with one of the Disney Cruise peeps!
